A Letter to Khushali, Nguyen and Thao...My Little Angels!

I had the pleasure of meeting three beautiful young ladies-- while on assignment. All three touched my heart. They spoke to the little girl inside of me. I would like to devote this blog to them.

Khushali
You are beautiful and extremely smart you have a spirit that is inquisitive, you ask questions-- and that is a very important characteristic. Because in order to get to answers, we must continually ask questions. Remember this Khusali..(whatever dice we are rolled in our life)..are rolled to make us stronger. Our hurt and anger in life makes us stronger.

Hurt and anger if used properly builds our character. It teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. So embrace the hurt and soothe it with compassion for yourself and others.

Never allow others to define your destiny..You are GREAT and anything you believe you can achieve.. You Can !  I see your greatness-- and in order to get to it..you must see it as well. Study and work hard and you will achieve all of your dreams..promise!!

Judge no man-- because you have never walked in their shoes personally..accept people right where they are and allow them to be themselves. Love your parents and know that all that they are teaching you will serve you later in life, so take notes.

Focus on your dreams and imagine as much as possible --while trying to stay in the present and enjoying your current blessings. Embrace your sister because your relationship with her will shape your ability to be compassionate later in life. She is a blessing not a curse. I have extremely high expectations for your life..but remember that they are my expectations ..do not allow them to define where you end up..just allow them to inspire you as you move into your womanhood. Also remember that HARVARD --and any other Ivy is an option if you believe it!

Nguyen
You are beautiful as well..you have a kindness and warmth that radiates through your eyes. You are a fast learner and your English is getting amazingly polished. Your dual language skills will be a gift as you move on to your career. I believe that you will do great at Clayton State... or any college that you choose.

You have great presence in which will serve you well. Never allow your language to stop you from aspiring for what you dream. Practice your English everyday if necessary..find people in your community that speak well and mimic their diction. Practice makes perfect!

I believe in your abilities..now you must do the same. As you move on to the 12th grade, remember that your decisons this year will shape your life, so make them slowly and precisely..there are no mistakes..just opportunities to learn. Study hard and focus on your goals and I know that you will do amazing things with your life.

Thao

You are a natural born leader..you take charge of your surroundings. This gift will serve you well as you move on to your career.I have watched you blossom over the past several weeks..you are comfortable in your self and that is a quality that some take years to acquire. Never be afraid of your natural born gifts..they are your tools that God gave you to give to the world.

Being a leader is hard work..remember to allow yourself to learn from others, while still leading. Leaders need to be able to do both..and I believe that you have that ability. Study hard and attempt to put a plan in place for your education. Education will be the foundation that will allow you to perform your God given talents even better.

I believe that you will do great things in your life, now you must do the same...

Pauline Respress, M.Ed., We can learn a lot about faith by watching a mere leaf float on water. The leaf calmly floats even though it is surrounded by a vast amount of water. The leaf is not flailing it is accepting where it is and embracing it. This is much how I see faith. I see the spirit as the water and my physical self as the leaf.  My spirit guides me as to where I need to be, but I must trust my spirit to carry me. We Must "Be Love" to "Have Love" ....

This journey is teaching me a lot of things, but the most profound lesson that I have learned is that in order to have love in our lives, we must be the love that we want to see. It is easy to be hate, because hate does not require much work, hate does not require-- practicing forgiveness or understanding or compassion; it merely requires finding reasons to not do the work required to get to more love in our lives. Loving at times --can be messy, it requires letting down all of our guards and diving into unknown places --while abandoning all of our fears and reservations. Loving is an action word, it is the rolling up of our sleeves and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable enough-- to take the punches that sometimes accompanies getting to love. We all come equipped with artificial guards that protect and soothe us--they are the warm blankets that protect us from the world. But sometimes in order to get to more love-we must be willing to lower our guard and share the love...

Paschal's Wager

Paschal's Wager is a suggestion posed by French philosopher writer and mathematician, Blaise Paschal, that clearly rationalizes (for me) our belief in Christ.  Paschal believed that in deciding on accepting religion we must first view it as a wager, betting on the fact that God exist and if he doesn't we lose nothing. If he doesn't we have lived a life that is guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ and we have lived as though we have faith, we have also lived an enriched life that is based primarily on love. Some may argue that this rationalization is far-fetched and that they cannot place all of their belief in something or someone that they can not see and that the teachings are merely dogma that people use to hide behind. But for me --I'd rather hide behind love than not--I'd rather be guided by principles that enrich my life than not. What is the alternative? living a empty shell of a life that anything goes and that is guided by our own insatia...
